LESS IS MORE…. AN ABSTRACTED APPROACH: HIGHLIGHTING DESIGN ELEMENTS WITH RESTRAINT

During this meditative and insightful workshop, you will use watercolor paper as a substrate, using a restricted acrylic paint color palette.  Just a few tools such as a squeegee and brayer, along with limited watercolor brushes will be used. Minimal is the operative word here. We begin by constructing a rich under painting on your paper in a rather thoughtful, yet unrestricted manner, analyzing each step.  After building this first layer, we initiate and assemble bridges and links between shapes using line work and color temperature, often covering large areas. Color theory, mixing and values will be discussed and initiated by creating various neutrals. A spectrum of sophisticated black and white will be used as well. Demonstrations will readily be given throughout this workshop to guide you along.  Deduction of unnecessary regions, quieting areas and applying sheer glazes, will help begin to unify your painting. A “less is more” concept is decidedly encouraged.

When: February 20 & 21, 2010  (Saturday & Sunday) 9:30 – 4:30

Cost: $270

Note: Bring a bagged lunch and wear worry free clothing. Instructor will provide some paints.
